It seems that lately the only news I know about is the news I read on the Internet.
I have a lot of things happening in the future [baby, wedding, house] so I am working overtime these next few days [maybe weeks, depends how I feel] to store some extra time. Where I work, we don't get paid overtime, instead we is given what is called 'k-time'. It is basically time off so for every hour I work overtime I get an hour and a half off..
Anywhoo.. I am always at work now [7 to 6] so I am on the computer A LOT. When I was working 8 to 4:30, I could barely concentrate on my work and dedicate my whole time to actual work so it is extremely hard now seeing how I added 2.5 hours to the mix. So of course, my down time at work has tripled [no math error..lol]...
During my 'free' time, I usually browse Yahoo! News for interesting stories or just handle some business for the baby, wedding, and house. I often looked at the local section to read about the dumb random acts of the people in my surroundings..
Now, I am not sure why, but it seems that all comments are centered around race. It doesn't matter the topic, race is ALWAYS involved. I've read comments regarding monkeys, 'those people', and a couple of times even ran across the word nigger.
I am no stranger to racism. I lived in Joplin, MO as one of the only black people so I am accustomed. But the measures that people take to put down another group is ridiculous.
Like, for example... I read an article which read EXACTLY: Mother leaves child in dumpster...
Having read that... Where is the racial stereotype? What is the notation that signifies race, culture, or heritage?
Last time I checked whites, blacks, asians, mexicans, chinese, japenese, etc could be mothers. But it seems as if I was the only one who didn't get the 'this post is about this race' memo. Around the third or so comment, the racial remarks start pouring in. Of course, all was negative and very stereotypical..
In my opinion, this world is full of racism and it is stemmed from the media. The media pegs different cultures and races and, unfortunately, society lives by them. Don't get me wrong, racism did not start from the media.. The media is simply the flame to the dark room.
As perceived from movies, music videos, etc blacks has an image. Whites has an image. Chinese has an image. And on and on and on.
It is just a shame that people takes that image and just runs with it. Children are growing up hearing those images and some grow up to be just like them. And others grow up to magnify those images.
This world is full of racism.
It's funny though.. The number of racist comments I read a day is nearly 10 times the amount of racist comments I hear in a day. Why are people hiding behind their computers? Honestly, those racist comments I read online everyday does not phase me because those people are cowards.
Maybe one day the world will get over the media and maybe one day it might be a place for everyone..
