New Age Ebonics

I used to consider myself a fluent ebonics speaker, but am I too old for the game??

I don't live by the chivalry laws so I have no problem opening the door for myself. As long as both of my hands are not filled with stuff, I don't see any inconvenience in me opening a door.

With that said, while walking into the building of my class I held the door open for this young fella. He responded with 'fa sho'. I was dumbfounded. As far as I know, 'fa sho' is sort of like a your welcome. I didn't know how to respond to his statement. Awkwardly, though, I started to murmur a 'thank you'. [I just figured a 'your welcome' deserved a 'thank you'] Just as the words was exiting my mouth, I realized how crazy it would be for me to say that so I immediately took it back leaving outsiders with a simple, yet mumbled 'thank'.

When did 'fa sho' become a substitute for 'thank you'? Am I really getting that old?

Maybe I should brush up on my ebonics. Or maybe.. The fella was struck by my beauty and he, too, murmured a completely dumbfounded remark.

I will never know, but I will pretend it was the latter..
