OK.. I just read an article.. WAIT -- Scratch that.. I just read an article's title. It was 'Spanking May Lower Kids IQs'..
I started to read the article but stopped after only the second sentence.. I disagree..
I don't think spanking lowers a child's IQ. I think it lowers their confidence.
A child gets a spanking when they does something wrong. However, most times a child gets a spanking after doing something once. Umm.. Example: A child decides to draw on the wall with marker. Maybe they just seen a documentary on the man who painted the Sistine Chapel.... [Ok.. Don't know his name and maybe just butchered the spelling of the chapel or maybe cathedral but roll with me] and decided they wanted to paint a masterpiece too. Well, instead of getting recognition, the child got a red butt instead. That child will never paint on the wall again and maybe will never try something that ambitious again..
So from that example, it is not that the spanking made the child dumber, but instead made the child less confident. That child will always be afraid of doing something wrong.
Take talking back.. That is probably the number one reason for most spankings.. A child might be afraid to speak their mind out of fear of getting spanked.
IQ is not what you know. Instead it is what others think you know. A mute is considered mentally challenged until someone realizes that the person can't talk.
A child who is constantly spanked loses the courage to take risks and make impromptu decisions. That child usually just flows with the normal. Instead of doing it all and seeing the results, that child would then only do stuff that is known to be right while avoiding all that may be wrong or never attempted.
